An original WW II War Savings Bond Series E in a very high denomination of $1,000.00. This was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for the Treasury Department, and features President Abraham Lincoln.
It also tells a homefront story that apparently the purchaser; who did so in January of 1945 may have felt that since the war was likely to come to an end (in September), he would cash it in instead of waiting until it matured. He only got back what he invested without seeing any premium above the amount paid.
This scarce one thousand dollar wartime bond is in used condition with a hole punch cancel, folds, and age wear
as seen in the photos.
